Weird Wired Jewellery

My interest in creating jewellery started when I was quite young and over many years I have experimented with a variety of different mediums, but nothing has provided the satisfaction and inspiration I now experience when creating with wire. I enjoy both the technical and aesthetic challenges, and the achievement of making interesting, one-of-a-kind jewellery.

I follow two different paths when working with wire and both are inspired by music albeit different genres. My intricate, woven work comes from a place of meditation, laying the weaving wire over the base wire in repetitive patterns allows for much contemplation of the world and how to put it to rights – accompanied by classical, acapella, or instrumental works. My more figurative works come from the pure enjoyment of playing with wire, colour, and form. This work is created to more upbeat, joyful styles of music.

The processes used in the creation of my jewellery involve neither solder nor glue, instead it is the wires bending, shaping, and wrapping around itself that makes the permanent connections. I choose to use 100% recycled pure Copper or Sterling and Fine Silver wire, gemstones, and beads plus some found and re-purposed items. I fabricate my own clasps, ear wires, jump-rings and chains as well as weaving each unique item, involving many hours of work.

I am based in the southwest of Western Australia, self-taught and learning every day.

And, as many people ask, this is how my business name came about ... at my very first market I had no business name. By chance, I happened to overhear a teenage customer telling her parents that my jewellery was “really weird”, and I really liked that sentiment. I wasn’t convinced that “Weird Jewellery” really worked so, after some brain storming, it became “Weird Wired Jewellery".
