Meet the Maker: Kadri Kuusler Artist

Kadri is an Estonian born artist, living in Western Australia. With a true passion for art, she is forever inspired by the unique nature in both Australia and Estonia and she strives to capture that in her drawings.

From Creative Freedom Comes Unique Art

Kadri has been drawing and painting all her life and studied Art at university to improve her skills further. After having to follow strict guidelines in completing assignments, she couldn't wait to draw whatever she felt inspired to draw. She went from drawing animals to drawing portraits and then decided to combine both of those together, triggering her signature style. She is fascinated by different natural environments, birds and animals and she loves to combine these with girls, lost in daydreams.

Jill of all Artistic Trades

Kadri enjoys combining different techniques. Currently she uses Procreate on her iPad as well as watercolours. She primarily uses watercolours to make colourful abstract details and textures which she then adds to her digital illustrations. She plays around with the placement and adjusts the colours to create the perfect piece. She has expanded her product range from art prints to calendars and tote bags as well. To complement her art, she also sells poster hangers made of repurposed jarrah, fully handmade by her (and her partner).

A Creative Side Hustle

Kadri’s illustration business is her side hustle. She studied production design and has been working in that area for many years now, designing for feature films and TV commercials. Drawing has always been her true passion and Kadri’s ultimate goal is to become a full-time illustrator and create more custom work.

Kadri is relatively new to the market scene and another goal of hers is do more markets!

Finding the Time to Create – An Ongoing Challenge

For Kadri the hardest thing about owning her own small business is not having enough time and energy to create the art she feels inspired to create. A successful Art business requires a lot of man hours and thought, it also needs to be consistent. There is also a huge financial investment going towards materials and printed products.
